He aimlessly travels around Asia occasionally consulting on corporate security, teaching English and licking his wounds after losing the love of his life following her betrayal. Life no longer holds any meaning for him.On his last weekend in a bar in Hong Kong, Paul has a chance meeting with three random western strangers: Matt an American IT consultant with an insatiable taste for exotic hookers- Jeff a mostly gay, semi-retired ice-skating producer from Canada- and, Trevor a sensitive, down on his luck English teacher from the UK. They share their remarkably similar stories over drinks. Each of them has had failed relationships in the west followed by even more failed relationships in the east. Asia wasn’t the paradise they’d imagined and they have all been victims of con artists. After a tragic incident that shocks the survivors to the core, the remainder of the group is forced to reassess their lives. Paul suggests they fight back and try to make a difference. They resolve to start a private detective agency to perform background checks on partners of westerners living in the Philippines. After relocating to Manila, Jun a Philippine ladyboy and Jeff’s former lover, joins the group and brings local knowledge, language skills and an uncanny ability to pass as a man or woman in all walks of Manila life. Paul and Jeff take cover jobs as English teachers to hide their true line of work. The agency has some limited success, despite some near-disastrous scrapes with the locals, until Paul meets Susan. An Australian expert in nanotechnology, Susan shares the group’s values having been dumped by a cheating husband and robbed by her Indonesian beach boy lover. She channels her fury into developing stealth lie-detector technology that could give the business a unique competitive agency. The team welcomes her with open arms after an astonishing demonstration of the technology and the team offers the premium service to elite clients all over Asia. The partners become fabulously wealthy but one problem the team hadn’t fully anticipated is that when liars are exposed, they seek revenge. The team faces mortal danger from angry lesbians, a Manila crime syndicate, an Irish vegan assassin, and from treachery within their own ranks.
